From October 2005 Mattersey Hall has offered two different degree streams, to recognise the different gifts and skills our graduates will require and the different vocations and ministries in which they will function. The two programmes each have their own distinctive focus and learning outcomes, but share a common first year, so you will have plenty of time to settle into college life and to work with faculty advisors to clarify your abilities and interests before choosing your study pathway.
In the first year you would take a range of modules from ‘Ministry Dynamics’, through ‘Bible Survey’, to ‘Communicating the Bible’, with one of the highlights of the year being a two-week overseas Missions Trip. There is also the option of taking New Testament Greek. In the second year, you would study a selection of compulsory ‘core’ subjects, but would also choose some ‘elective’ modules from both the vocational Christian Leadership and the more academic Biblical Studies and Theology pathways, with a view to which of the two BA programmes you intend to pursue. Then in the third year, you choose which degree programme you will finally pursue and make your own selection of modules based on your developing sense of vocation and the ministry pathway you wish to pursue at the end of your undergraduate training. Within both programmes, there are plenty of options so you can customise your course to meet your own specific needs.
Because Mattersey Hall is not a purely academic institution but is focussed on preparing graduates for Christian life and ministry in its broadest senses, all candidates for the degree programmes pursue one of our vocational college diploma courses as well. The title of the diploma you are awarded from the college itself will reflect your choice of options and your intended future ministry.
For students who for some reason do not wish to work towards a degree or wish to spend less than three years in college, it is possible to complete the first year of our course and be awarded a University of Wales Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE), or the first two years of either programme to earn the University Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE). These programmes do not attract a Mandatory Award from your Education Authority, however.
