Our External Certificate in Biblical Studies is a college-level qualification, broadly equivalent in curriculum and required workload to the first year of our residential degree. To earn the certificate, you have to successfully complete 120 ‘credits’ worth of modules. Most modules are worth 10 credits; certain ‘double’ modules require twice the amount of work, and they are worth 20 credits. There are 10 modules required to complete the External Certificate. They are as follows:
Each module consists of a study guide. As well as the course content, the study guide contains a series of multiple-choice self-tests for you to check your own understanding of the material and other study tasks. There are essay assessments for each module: 2 essays of 1500 words for single modules (10 credits) and 4 essays of 1500 words for double modules (20 credits). A personal tutor is assigned to each student by the college to assist them with any questions they might have, help them through the programme and offer constructive feedback on their coursework as well as marking their work. To complete the college level modules generally takes about 30-50 hours of study per 10 credit single module and 50-75 hours for a 20 credit double module. To help and motivate you move through the programme at a regular pace the college has set time limits to finish a module. A student is given three months to complete a 10 credit module and six months for a 20 credit module with an additional month possible at the discretion of the tutor. For better learning, the modules are assigned in a logical order as determined by the college. This allows a process of one module building on another, providing for a stronger learning continuity. One advantage of distance learning is that you don’t have to pay for all the modules in one lump sum unless you want to. You have the option of paying for each individual module when you order it. |
