This is Mattersey Hall’s flagship programme for intending church leaders. The more vocation-driven of the two programmes, it focuses on imparting the information contemporary leaders need to be successful in local church ministry within the United Kingdom and beyond, with a strong emphasis on understanding popular culture, leadership skills, management and organisational development. It requires the same application and commitment as, and carries identical weight to, the Biblical Studies programme, but reflects the need for different skills and gifts in today’s Christian ministry, and seeks to build an entrepreneurial, mission-minded and outwardly focussed mindset in our graduates. Most students intending to work in fields such as mission, evangelism and church planting, social concern and business and commerce would be best served by opting for this programme.
The general objectives of both our BA programmes are that our graduates will be able to demonstrate:
• detailed awareness of the contents of the protestant Bible, and skills in biblical interpretation (hermeneutically, homiletically and pedagogically)
• a knowledge of church history and a grasp of Christian doctrine and its development
• a working knowledge of the biblical languages and aptitude for Bible translation and exegesis (for those suitably gifted)
• skills in the presentation and communication of Christian teaching, particularly in crosscultural and intercultural contexts
• a detailed understanding of key principles of Christian mission at home and abroad
• an understanding of the culture(s) of the world in which they live
professional competences in areas of possible ministries such as broadcasting and communication, counselling, leadership and church growth, social concern, as well as academic theology and biblical studies
